Cruising at Ultimate Speed: Indy Car St. Pete

I got the IndyCar bug three years ago while working at a company who sponsored an IndyCar team. It was a fluke. I didn’t know the difference between IndyCar and Nascar (like so many others).

But as soon as I arrived to downtown St. Petersburg, something came over me – I heard those engines. And then I saw the track. And then I saw the speed!

I was hooked.

Three seasons ago, I was honored to be able to go into the driver paddocks, as well as pit lane to see Graham Rahal with RLL Racing.

Last year I was able to go to St. Pete Grand Prix again, and once again, I got to see Graham Rahal and the other drivers close up.

By pure chance last fall, I happened to meet someone through PRSA who had been in charge of media for GPSP for more than 20 years. Bart Graham asked me if I wanted to volunteer in the media center.

Of course — yes!! I signed up for all four days.

The experience was intense, close up look at the behind the scenes.  It started with being stationed at the Vinoy for the drivers media interviews. The local PRSA chapter held a talk with St Pete Chamber of Commerce CEO.

We were stationed in the Mahaffey Theater and had an amazing – and air-conditioned – view of the track. We could also go on the parking garage where there was another great view. The top three winners held press conferences in the Mahaffey where 400 members of media from around the world were gathered to report on the event.

Sharing a few photos here now.

It was an incredible opportunity.

Exciting partnership with IndyCar team

rll-envelopeOne of the most exciting things this year was our great partnership with RLL Racing and Graham Rahal. Graham was on the Valpak envelope in August.

Here’s the press release:

Valpak Promotes Savings on the Go Through IndyCar Partnership with Rahal Letterman Lanigan

(LARGO – May 22, 2014) — Valpak, a leader in local print and digital coupons, announces a partnership with Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) Racing to kick off this weekend at the Indianapolis 500 and continue through 2015.

The partnership combines America’s love of racing with Vapak’s loyal audience, reinforces the convenience of mobile apps on the go and supports Valpak’s automotive offerings, which continue to be a favorite with the Valpak audience.

The Valpak logo will be featured on the No. 15 National Guard Honda-powered IndyCar driven by Graham Rahal, as well as the No. 16 Honda-powered IndyCar driven by Oriol Servia thus spreading the Valpak savings message nationwide on the Verizon IndyCar Series circuit.

Valpak’s envelopes – mailing July 22 through August 18 – will support the partnership. The Valpak envelope will include an augmented reality (AR) component and will be mailed to more than 40 million households throughout the United States and Canada.

On Friday, May 23, Valpak will invite their social media followers to share in the experience and excitement of the Indy 500 and will share special photos and messages with racing fans throughout the weekend on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
